No matter how chaotic the world becomes, the sun will keep shining — especially with the arrival of summer. That means it’s time to get off our butts and do something fun outside.

This week’s roster of new outdoor gear will help you do just that. We’ve got burly e-bikes and gravel running shoes to show you, along with colorful running belts, Swiss Army watches, and a bike ramp that just might inspire you to (literally) reach new heights. Welcome to this week’s best offerings in the world of Emerging Gear.

MTB Hopper Skinny

I had never heard of Lithuania-based MTB Hopper, a brand that apparently makes portable ramps and other accessories for two-wheeled tricksters. While most of its products seem geared toward experienced riders, the latest release aims for family fun in the backyard, with a starter ramp suitable for aspiring MTB heroes.

The Skinny 2025 ($530) is a portable and adaptable product designed specifically to help any rider improve their bike skills, the brand said. It’s reminiscent of the Erector Sets of many a child’s youth. And like those mythic toys, the ramp can be used in a variety of configurations.

Made from plywood, its pieces lock together securely — no tools required. MTB Hopper thinks there’s nothing else on the market like this. Unless you’re handy enough to make one yourself, I’m inclined to agree.

PAKA Ultralight Coolplus Crew

PAKA’s blend of natural alpaca fibers with synthetic materials has resulted in some stellar apparel. Most recently, GJ Camping Editor Will Brendza praised the warmth offered by the PAKA Apu Parka.

Now the Peru-based brand has a summer offering meant to keep you cool: the Ultralight Coolplus Crew. This blend of 50% alpaca with 30% organic cotton and 20% Coolplus yarn results in a flexible warm-weather layer for summer adventures, according to PAKA. The Coolplus yard uses viscose fiber that allows moisture to evaporate more quickly — without added chemicals.

Available in three colors for men and women, it’s priced at $135. Like all of PAKA’s gear, each piece is accented with PAKA’s signature Inca ID, handwoven by Quechua weavers in Peru.

Lucyd x Reebok Smart Glasses

If high-tech glasses are your thing, this new partnership is worth a look.

Lucyd, the first Chat-GPT-enabled smart eyewear company, has launched a new collaboration with Reebok. The Reebok Smart Eyewear comes with high-fidelity speakers, powerful amplifiers, and equalizers designed for outdoor activities, Lucyd said in a release.

The collaboration also got an endorsement from Micah Richards, a former Manchester City football star and Olympic athlete. If you want to stay connected and jamming tunes with just a pair of glasses, these shades aim to do just that. The collaboration is available in several Lucyd styles, and currently sells for $200 after a 9% discount.

Sumarpo Quokka Summer Swimrun Vest

Built for “seamless transitions between water and land,” the new swimrun vest from California-based Sumarpo promises a minimal, rugged design for triathletes and other outdoor sports.

The Quokka Summer Swimrun Vest has a streamlined fit that aims to reduce chafing. Stretch fabric also allows a full range of motion for swimming, climbing, or sprinting, the brand said. It’s designed to function as a standalone piece for breathable, hot-weather runs or as a layer under a swimrun wetsuit for added buoyancy.

According to Sumarpo, the vest is ultralight, UV-blocking, and quick-drying. It also has reflective accents to enhance visibility, and even four pockets for hydration flasks or other small pieces of gear. It costs $70 for both men and women.

Salomon Aero Glide 3 GRVL

Is there really a difference between trail runners and a pair of shoes built just for gravel? Salomon seems to think so with the launch of the Aero Glide 3 GRVL.

This latest addition to the brand’s gravel running product line is built on 40/32mm high stack foam with an all-new Gravel Contagrip outsole. Chevron lugs on the outsole offer multidirectional grip and improved traction on soft surfaces like mud or loose dirt while maintaining a smooth ride on the pavement, the brand claims.

There’s also a high-stack SalomonFOAM evo midsole with an 8mm drop. The shoes weigh 9.7 ounces for men and 8.3 ounces for women, and they cost $160.

Kingbull EX Titan

The L.A.-based Kingbull has been putting out some powerful e-bikes, and its latest is no exception. The brand calls the EX Titan the “most powerful full-suspension, street-legal eMTB” yet available.

It’s got a four-bar full suspension system with ZOOM 879DH hydraulic front fork, DNM AO-38RC air shock, BAFANG G062 hub motor delivering 85Nm of torque, and a Samsung 960Wh battery providing up to 80 miles of range.

Though a new release, Kingbull is selling the new e-bike at a discount. Get yours for $2,000.

HANDUP Dino’s End Collection

Handup must have underestimated the appeal of its new dinosaur-themed collection of biking apparel. The Dino’s End FlexGRID Button Up is so freaking cool that I wanted to buy one myself — until I saw that it was already sold out in most sizes. So clearly, I’m not the only person who finds dino-themed gear as irresistible as a human morsel for a hungry T-rex.

Handup does have other offerings in the collection still available, however, including gloves, socks, and the same super-awesome button-up (sized for kiddos). The big takeaway for me? Outdoor brands need to offer more dinosaur-themed gear for adults. I’ll wait.

SPIBelt

It’s been a while since we took a look at SPIBelt, an Austin, Texas-based company making lightweight packs for runners. GJ Co-founder Stephen Regenold gave the brand a shoutout all the way back in the halcyon days of 2011, when adding hip pockets to backpacks was a novel idea.

SPIBelt has grown plenty since then, adding lots of cool colors to its $27 flagship running belt. (I’m a fan of the Van Gogh option. Let’s get more outdoor designs with classic paintings, please!)

There’s also a PRO Line for longer-distance athletes who need some additional storage and features, waterproof pouches, crossbody options, and lots of other ways to keep your phone handy while getting sweaty.

Victorinox Swiss Army Watch

Victorinox just debuted a new timepiece collection called Swiss Army. Including four Quartz, six Chronograph and two Automatic styles, the Swiss Army collection offers several style options.

Made in stainless steel, the watches feature a plain dial, raised numerals, and oversized hands. An upgrade to the FieldForce collection, the Swiss Army line has been upgraded with anti-shock and antimagnetic durability, the brand said, along with water resistance up to 100 m.

All quartz and professional dive models also have anti-scratch features and antimagnetic protection. The collection introduces a new metal mesh bracelet, a tool-free quick release strap system, and a secure sliding buckle.

prAna x Chris Sharma T-Shirt

It’s pretty rare to see a shirt paying homage to a specific ascent in climbing history, especially in bouldering. It’s too much like insider baseball for many people. But if you know of legendary climber Chris Sharma, then you’re probably stoked to see this shirt collab with prAna.

To celebrate 30 years of partnership with Sharma, prAna just dropped a limited-edition graphic tee that pays tribute to one of climbing’s most iconic moments: Sharma’s groundbreaking ascent of The Mandala boulder in Bishop, Calif.

The shirt has original artwork by Bishop local and Sharma’s longtime mentor, Andy Puhvel. Available in three colors, the Sharma Mandala Boulder Graphic Tee costs $34.
