The Aston Martin DBX is about to get even better. A new Aston Martin DBX S model takes the 707 and gives it more of what buyers want: more power, less weight, and even less utility.

Aston Martin DBX S Ups the 707’s Game

When Aston launched the 697-horsepower DBX707, it was a hit — so popular that it pushed the 542-horsepower base model right out of showrooms. So, Aston is heading back to that successful well, grabbing the S badge that it first used for its highest-performance models in 1953 and giving it an extra 20 horsepower. However, it’s not really any quicker.

The extra 20 horses come from new turbos with larger compressor wheels and some other enhancements. They bring the total to 717 horsepower, with torque the same at 663 pound-feet.

Aston’s acceleration numbers say that the S won’t be any quicker from 0 to 62 miles per hour (3.3 seconds is quick enough), but it will be 0.3 seconds quicker to hit 124 mph. Top speed stays the same at 193 miles per hour.

Trim Weight From Your 4,900-Pound SUV

You can make the Aston Martin DBX S up to 103 pounds lighter than the 707, though the lightweight features are almost entirely on the options list. The carbon fiber roof, for example, trims about 40 of those pounds, though much of the savings from the roof comes with the accompanying deletion of the roof racks.

Picking your 23-inch wheels in magnesium instead of aluminum also helps cut weight. They cut 42 pounds of unsprung weight and also include the deletion of the roof racks to shave some more. You can even pick a lightweight front grill, though Aston doesn’t say how much that one pares from the total.

DBX S Gets Same Suspension as 707

The suspension is the same as the DBX 707, a combination of electronically adjustable shocks and air springs. They can cut body roll to almost nothing, and can deliver more comfort in comfort mode with more body control in the fast modes.

Carbon ceramic brakes are massive and should make sure this hyper-SUV’s stopping never fades. It does come with a slightly quicker steering rack that should also make the turning circle a couple of feet tighter.

Styling changes are a lot more obvious. The S has a more aggressive body kit that includes a new front splitter and new side skirts. It also comes with a much more aggressive rear diffuser and new stacked quad tailpipes. The S badges on the fenders are metal that has been glass enameled, which should look super-cool in person.

A herringbone pattern for the seats is standard and specific to the S. You can get the headliner to match if you opt for the carbon roof. The fabric of choice inside is Alcantara, and it has been applied to nearly every surface. Alternatively, you can order semi-aniline leather covering almost everywhere.

Aston Martin DBX S: The Latest in a Long Line of S Models

While the first Aston Martin S was the DB3S racecar built in 1953, the name has only come into common use this century. Other S models include the Vanquish S, Vantage S, and the Rapide S, all with more power and “more sporting” suspensions. There has not been a DBS S.

If you want this monster SUV, the order books are open now. Deliveries are expected to start in Q4 of this year. As far as the price, Aston didn’t announce it yet. But with the DBX707 starting from around $250,000, don’t expect it to be inexpensive.
