Through the years, projected light technology has evolved exponentially. The clunky, not-so-bright lights of yesteryear have been replaced with compact, ultra-bright offerings, which now include the SureFire Turbo Scout Light Pro.

Developed using anodized aerospace-grade aluminum, SureFire’s Turbo Scout Light Pro features tempered glass for durability. O-ring seals help to keep the unit safe from the elements, which earned an IPX7 waterproof rating, meaning it is waterproof when submerged in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. This ruggedly built light measures 5.9 inches long and has a bezel diameter of 1.2 inches. At just 5.5 ounces, the Turbo Scout Light Pro won’t weigh you down if you have to search or shoot.

In a potential deadly force encounter, even the most well-constructed light won’t do you any good if it’s not sufficiently bright. While most lights are bright enough to illuminate a silhouette target at the range, lights designed for reality need to be bright enough to enable the user to identify a threat. The consequences of mistaking a non-threat for a deadly threat (or vice-versa) could be tragic. Beyond threat identification, an intense beam of light can compromise an adversary’s vision, making it harder for him to see you.

When measuring a flashlight’s brightness, two standards are often cited: Lumens and candela. “Lumens” refer to the total amount of light emitted. “Candela” denotes how much light is emitted in a particular direction. The latter has more to do with how far a beam of light projects. The Turbo Scout Light Pro’s reflector produces a beam that reaches 533 meters using either battery type.

With a lumen output of 500 (SF18650B battery) and a candela of 71,000, the Turbo Scout Light Pro produces a bright, far-reaching beam that’s just as effective in close quarters. Run time is 2 hours when loaded with the SF18650B battery, and 1 hour when two CR123A batteries are installed.

The Turbo Scout Light Pro mounts easily to a Picatinny rail or M-Lok slot. The mount supports a low profile, user-configurable light source. Once attached, the hinged Low-Profile Mount (LPM) allows the unit to rotate along a vertical plane to the desired position.

The tailcap activation button supports momentary or constant-on use, and a protective shroud prevents unintended activation. The Turbo Scout Light Pro is compatible with a variety of remote activation switches, too, a testament to its versatility.
