Eric Poole, Editor of Guns and Ammo magazine, joins John May of Ed Brown Products at the 2019 NRA Annual Meetings to talk about their special Jeff Cooper Commemorative 1911.

The 1911 comes in a book style case that features the Ed Brown initials and Colonel Jeff Cooper’s personal logo printed on the front cover. The Jeff Cooper Commemorative Edition is not based on any particular model, but is a standalone gun of its own. The gun was designed from photos of Cooper’s own collection and conversations with his daughter, Lindy, to best represent what Cooper desired most in a 1911, which was a simple design and an effective firearm.

One feature includes a shorter grip safety, which was Cooper’s preference on all his firearms along with being carry-ready. The design has a high-polish blue slide over a matte blue frame and one side sports Cooper’s signature in gold and the other side has Cooper’s trademark “DVC,” which from Latin translates to “Accuracy, Power, and Speed.”

The Jeff Cooper Commemorative 1911 is chambered in .45 ACP with a match barrel, and like other Ed Brown products it was tested at 1-15 yards, which is considered to be self-defense range distance. The gold bead front sight and Novak Sights in the rear. The 1911 is not only beautiful, but is an effective fighting pistol that has a lowered and flared ejection port with no sharp edges to be seen.

25 LPI checkering can be found on the front strap and the back along with an integral lanyard loop, which was one of Cooper’s favorite features on his pistols. Accompanied by an extended thumb safety, the memory groove beaver tail safety ensures you’ll always have a consistent, comfortable grip and will not get bit by the hammer. The Cocobolo grips are adorned with the engraved Jeff Cooper logo of the pen and sword. Rather then the three-hole triggers often seen, this pistol has a solid trigger, which was of course the preference of the Colonel.

The polished 7-round magazines drop freely when it’s time to reload and have “EB” laser engraved at the bottom for authenticity. Although not included in this kit, Ed Brown magazines come with your choice of two bass pads and the company offers the Ed Brown Magazine Exchange program.

Along with the pistol, two magazines also come in the book. Other items include a special printing of Jeff Cooper’s Yankee Fist, a Jeff Cooper Commemorative Challenge Coin, a Legacy Foundation Patch, and a Legacy Foundation Pin, and a letter of authenticity. All proceeds from the accessories and a portion of the proceeds from each gun go to the Jeff Cooper Legacy Foundation.
