Few things will wreck a day on the water like being soaking wet and cold. Huk, traditionally known as a cool lifestyle brand with casual fishing apparel that’s both comfy and capable, is now making waves by seriously diving into performance fishing gear.

The brand’s new Pro Series Jacket and Bib definitely showcase this commitment. This setup promises protection, comfort, and reliability when you really need it.

GearJunkie gave a nod to Huk and the Pro Series at the 2024 ICAST. Listen, I briefly tried on this setup, and though it was oversized (because I’m small and female) and only worn for a bit of running around on the show floor, I can confirm it’s a rad set that feels built to handle harsh conditions.

Keep in mind this is only a first look, and we’ll update you all once we get it in the harsh conditions it was meant for.

Huk Pro Series Jacket Breakdown

Specs

  • $500
  • Toray 3L stretch nylon construction, with abrasion-resistant 3L nylon at high-wear areas
  • 30K WP/15K MP with C0 DWR 80/20
  • Fully seam sealed
  • 3-point adjustable hood
  • Kill switch D-ring
  • Two-way weatherproof zipper at CF
  • Two chest and two hand pockets with weatherproof zippers
  • Adjustable exterior cuff with internal adjustable dry cuff
  • Reflective hits at the right sleeve and upper back

The Pro Series Jacket boasts impressive specs. It has a solid 30K waterproof rating to easily shrug off heavy rain. Its 15K breathability ensures sweat will not linger, keeping you comfortable during active fishing sessions.

The jacket has fully taped seams, adjustable cuffs, and a storm hood. The hood is designed to fit snugly without limiting vision. A built-in kill switch ring adds crucial safety for boaters.

This thing is thoughtfully designed and explicitly aimed at anglers who might be battling wind, water, and everything in between.

Huk Pro Series Bib Overview

  • $500
  • Toray 3L Stretch Nylon — abrasion-resistant 3L nylon at high-wear areas
  • 30K Waterproof / 15K Breathable Rating
  • C0 DWR 80/20 Finish
  • Fully seam sealed
  • Two-way weatherproof zipper at CF
  • Two chest pockets with weatherproof zippers
  • Hand warmer pockets behind top of bib
  • Two kill switch D-rings at front panels
  • Cargo “water shield” pockets at thighs for easy entry
  • Plier pocket
  • Extended weatherproof zippers at bottom for easy on/off with boots
  • Reflective hits on left leg and upper back

The Pro Series Bibs are just as killer as the jacket. They have reinforced knees and seat areas for durability during rigorous use. The adjustable shoulder straps and articulated knees provide superior freedom of movement for hours of casting or operating gear.

Like the jacket, the bibs offer full waterproof protection with a 30K rating. They also provide excellent breathability at 15K to maintain dryness inside and out.

Initial Impressions

Look, we didn’t award this system with the award for Best Men’s Technical Gear at ICAST 2024 for nothing.

The reality is that a kit designed to withstand the weather nightmares of serious fishing also tends to come with far higher price tags than the Pro Series boasts. That alone is worth a nod, at the very least. The closest competitor, which is also a rad setup, hits the cash register at $200 higher for the full kit.

Once we get this setup into the real gnarly stuff, we’ll have a better grasp of whether or not it’s worth the investment, regardless of the cost savings. For now, it looks like it might just be one of the go-to getups for nasty spring and fall fishing going forward.
