SHIELD Sights just announced the release of the new OMSsc Sub Compact Red Dot Sight. There are a lot of red dot sights on the market now, but you know as soon as you look at it that the OMSsc is something a little different.

It’s the first “transparent roof” red dot sight on the market.

The OMSsc Sub Compact Red Dot

The OMSsc is a small optic suitable for subcompact pistols that use the RMSsc optic footprint. It trims some size over bigger optics by using a smaller CR1632 battery to minimize the sight width.

Although small, it’s sturdily built with a body of machined aerospace-grade T6 6082 Aluminum. It has a black anodized finish for corrosion resistance. The OMSsc is a non-macro optic with a clear glass lens and an anti-reflective clear coating.

The clear lens coupled with the clear optic “roof” helps to provide an unobstructed view of the field of fire, compared to conventional optics. The clear roof also allows the electronics to get a more accurate measure of ambient light conditions.

The OMSsc uses the SHIELD standard footprint and allows you to co-witness with standard-height iron sights. It is an always-on optic with a 4 or 8-MOA red dot. Battery life is said to be 1.5 years. Since it auto-adjusts brightness to lighting conditions, you’ll get a longer battery life by storing the sight (or your whole pistol) in a dark place when not in use.

The auto brightness works with the open-top design, and SHIELD says that it “samples the ambient light thousands of times per second” to provide optimal brightness for whatever your current lighting conditions are.

If you want one of the smallest red dot sights on the market, that will co-witness with standard sights, and provide a great field of view then it’s worth checking out the new OMSsc. I have a couple of subcompact pistols I’ll be working with soon and plan to get one to check out myself.

OMSsc Sub Compact Red Dot Sight Features:

  • Aerospace grade anodized T6 6082 Aluminum offering excellent corrosion
  • Zero magnification crystal clear glass lens with no color anti-reflective coating
  • Micro compact body design
  • Available in 4 or 8MOA options
  • CR1632 3V Lithium 1.5 year average use
