If the Democratic National Committee (DNC) was looking for a way to show they learned absolutely nothing from their 2024 election losses, they just nailed it.
Instead of course-correcting, they’ve doubled down on their anti-gun agenda by electing none other than David Hogg as DNC vice chair.
Whole Hogg
Yes, that David Hogg—the guy who built his entire brand on pushing gun control with Michael Bloomberg’s billions, as Larry Keane over at NSSF recently pointed out.
The 24-year-old activist, best known for his social media rants and revisionist takes on the Second Amendment, now has a key leadership role in the DNC.
You have no right to a gun. You are not a militia. When you’re talking about your second amendment rights you’re talking about a states right to have what is today the national guard. The modern interpretation of 2A is a ridiculous fraud pushed for decades by the gun lobby.

Alongside Arti Blanco and Malcom Kenyatta, Hogg will be helping shape the party’s future. And judging by his first speech, it’s going to be one long, angry Twitter thread brought to life.
“Who’s ready to take the fight to the Republicans and win this thing?” Hogg shouted at the crowd after his election. “Let’s go and kick some a**. Let’s go win our young people back, and let’s stop sending just our thoughts and prayers to address gun violence, and do something. Are you ready to do that?”
Well, that depends. If “doing something” means the usual laundry list of gun bans, restrictions, and repeals of laws that protect lawful gun owners and manufacturers, then he’s just preaching to the same tired choir.
The DNC’s 2024 platform already called for banning Modern Sporting Rifles (MSRs), standard-capacity magazines, criminalizing private gun transfers, and repealing the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA).
Hogg isn’t bringing fresh ideas—he’s just the newest, loudest salesman for policies America already rejected at the ballot box, as Alan Gottlieb from CCRKBA put it.
Gun Owners Are Growing—And They’re Not Buying What Hogg Is Selling
Hogg claims he’ll bring young and minority voters back into the Democratic fold, but here’s a reality check: those same voters are increasingly embracing their Second Amendment rights.
Since 2020, over 26.2 million Americans have become first-time gun owners. In 2024 alone, 3.9 million people bought their first firearm, and a significant chunk of them were young, female, and from minority backgrounds, per NSSF:
- 30% of first-time gun buyers were under 30.
- 57% of gun retailers saw an increase in White women purchasing firearms.
- 32% of retailers reported an increase in Black male gun buyers, with 32.5% seeing an uptick in Black female buyers.
- Hispanic and Asian buyers also saw significant increases.
These numbers tell a story the DNC refuses to acknowledge: Americans—especially young and minority voters—are rejecting the anti-gun rhetoric and choosing self-reliance instead.
Meanwhile, in the political arena, 47% of voters aged 18-29 backed Trump in 2024, along with 16% of Black voters and 43% of Hispanic voters. Gun control isn’t the winning issue Democrats think it is.
DNC’s Self-Inflicted Wound
Even mainstream media outlets are struggling to put a positive spin on the DNC’s latest move. The New York Times noted that Democrats are in disarray, debating whether their message or their inability to communicate it is the real problem. MSNBC’s Jen Psaki bluntly admitted that the party is “in the wilderness” with no clear leader.
And now they’ve decided David Hogg is the guy to lead them out of the woods?
Even Hogg himself has admitted he’s “one of the most politically toxic people in the country” and “too radical for American politics.”
But instead of distancing themselves, Democrats are embracing his brand of performative activism, signaling to millions of gun owners that their rights are still very much on the chopping block.
Meanwhile, Gun Owners Keep Winning
While the DNC spirals, Second Amendment supporters keep racking up victories. The Supreme Court has repeatedly affirmed that the right to keep and bear arms is an individual right—not a collective one tied to militias, as Hogg insists.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit even ruled that 18- to 20-year-olds cannot be barred from buying handguns because, at the time of the Founding, they were considered militia members with full gun rights.
So while the DNC plays political theater with Hogg as their newest star, gun owners continue welcoming new members into the fold.
The NSSF’s Faces of Firearms™ campaign highlights how Americans from all backgrounds share a commitment to their Second Amendment rights and safer communities.
The Bottom Line
By going “Whole Hogg,” the DNC isn’t just making a leadership mistake—they’re openly declaring war on gun owners.
Hogg may get applause from the usual anti-gun circles, but for the millions of Americans who’ve exercised their rights for the first time in recent years, his election is just another reminder of why they’ve walked away from the Democratic Party.
The good news?
While Hogg and the DNC keep pushing gun control, the 2A remains alive and well—protected by an ever-growing, diverse community of gun owners who aren’t going anywhere. And that’s a reality no amount of Bloomberg dollars or Twitter rants can change.
