Boebert’s New Bill Would Abolish the ATF

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert has once again made headlines by introducing legislation aimed at abolishing the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

Known for her vocal stance on Second Amendment rights, Boebert has been a consistent critic of the agency, calling out its overreach and heavy-handed regulatory actions.

In a recent address (see above), Boebert didn’t hold back, stating, “We don’t trust the ATF because of their overreaching actions.”

This latest move, through HR 129 filed for the 119th Congress, underscores her continued commitment to reigning in what she sees as an unchecked federal bureaucracy.

The bill has been referred to the Judiciary Committee, where it will face its first major hurdle.

Boebert’s supporters argue that the ATF’s growing power in rulemaking (e.g. bump stocks, “ghost guns,” pistol braces) often bypassing Congress to impose restrictions on law-abiding gun owners, is a significant threat to constitutional rights.

Critics, on the other hand, are likely to frame this as an extreme measure, claiming that the ATF plays a crucial role in law enforcement and public safety.

But for pro-2A advocates, this legislation represents a necessary step in holding federal agencies accountable and ensuring they operate within their legal boundaries.

At this stage, the specifics of HR 129 remain unclear. We’re waiting for Congresswoman Boebert’s official press release and the full text of the bill to break down the details. Stay tuned.
