There’s really only one way for Mongoose to celebrate 50 years of biking history: Rerelease the iconic BMX models that made the brand a household name. Of course, trading on nostalgia has become Mongoose’s raison d’être in recent years.

The Supergoose has made many comebacks since its original heyday in the 1980s, as has the Motomag, a.k.a. “the most iconic wheelset” in BMX history. And when Stranger Things caused many of us to relive our 1980s childhoods, Mongoose collaborated with Target for a special edition of the yellow-and-chrome model ridden by one of the main characters.

So, while Mongoose’s latest BMX Classics Collection might not be surprising — it’s also not unwelcome. Given the bike industry’s tendency toward cutting-edge innovation and insider jargon, a focus on vintage, functional bikes often feels like a refreshing change of pace.

The latest releases include new special editions of the Supergoose (of course), as well as the FS1, the brand’s first freestyle model. The collection is rounded out by another update of the Motomag III wheels.

As an “extra treat” for collectors, the bikes will come in ’80s-inspired white litho-laminated boxes with vintage artwork, Mongoose said in a press release. The Motomag III wheelsets will also come in a “period-correct brown box.”

50th-Anniversary Supergoose

Launched in 1979, the Supergoose quickly became one of the most recognizable bikes of the 1980s. The latest replica of this super-iconic bike is designed around the popular 1984 “loop-tail” frame.

Similar to the 1984 model, this latest Supergoose has 4130 chromoly tubing and alloy-drilled Pro Class Rims that are supposedly unique to Mongoose. The brand will also match the specs of its predecessor with Dia-Compe brakes and levers, Pro Class handlebars, and colors with padsets inspired by the original models. It costs $550.

50th-Anniversary FS-1

The FS-1 arrived in 1985, just a few years after the Supergoose. It represented Mongoose’s entry into the growing BMX freestyle scene of the late 1980s.

This latest version of the FS-1 is available in green or lavender. It’s also got a 4130 chromoly freestyle frame, as well as a chromoly fork with four “period-correct” peg bosses. But there’s more! It’s also got a Viscount Dominator saddle on a laid-back seat post, along with five-spoke nylon mag wheels with white gumwall tires — all to honor the original release. It’s also got a price tag of $550.

50th-Anniversary Motomag III

There’s no doubt that the aesthetics of early BMX were greatly influenced by the instantly recognizable Motomag wheels.

The third-generation Motomag III mimics the original while incorporating modern touches, the brand said. That includes sealed bearing hubs and freewheel compatibility that allows for a more universal fit. The Motomag III costs $300 and is available in three colors: silver, yellow, or red.

Interested in the BMX Classics Collection but live outside the U.S.? These sweet, vintage rides will also be available on Albes.com, according to Mongoose.
