New Ram Truck Warranty Offers Coverage Twice as Long as the Competition

Ram has just announced one of the longest warranties in the business. The big news for Ram’s half-ton pickups this year was going to be the return of the 5.7L Hemi V8. But now the truck and van builder has outdone itself, adding a new 10-year warranty to help make sure that the Hemi stays in your driveway for a very long time.

10 Years Coverage for Rams Big & Bigger

The new Ram 10-year powertrain warranty covers the running parts of the vehicle, with a 100,000-mile limitation. Powertrain, in this case, includes the engine, transmission, transfer case, driveshafts, differentials, and axles. It covers not just the Ram 1500 but all Ram models: ProMaster vans, the HD pickups, and even up to the 5500 Chassis Cab models.

There are some restrictions, of course. For instance, the warranty only applies to the first owner, and fleet buys are excluded. But a retail purchase for your business is covered.

Everything is more expensive, and trucks are certainly no exception. Truck buyers are financing purchases for longer periods of time, with nearly 80% of new truck loans exceeding five years. Our customers are making a long-term investment in Ram, and with America’s best full-size truck limited powertrain warranty, Ram is making a stronger and longer commitment to our customers.

Competition Offers 5 Years

What are the other pickup manufacturers offering? GM does 5 years or 60,000 miles on its gas V8 pickups like the Silverado. The 2.7T and all diesels, including the HD trucks, get 5 years/100K. Ford covers 5/60 on gas and hybrid models of trucks like the F-150, with 5/100 on diesel engines. Ford’s hybrid trucks have an extended 8-year/100,000-mile warranty on certain hybrid parts, in line with federal law.

Ram’s 10-Year Powertrain Warranty Is Thorough

This is a typical warranty as far as what’s covered; it’s the length that sets it apart. So items like a turbocharger, or a seal or gasket for a covered engine part, are part of it. And, on diesel engines only, all sensors (and the glow plugs) are covered.

Sell the truck, and the Ram 10-year powertrain warranty converts to 5/60 or 5/100 for diesel engines. Shortening the warranty for the second owner isn’t unusual — even if it does kinda suck. Mitsubishi, Hyundai, and Kia, which offer similar powertrain coverage (but not full-size trucks), do the same.

Ram and its fellow Stellantis brands have tried long warranties before. In 2007, it launched a Lifetime Powertrain Warranty that applied to the original owner. The package stuck around for about a decade.
