Woman convicted for same crime Hunter Biden allegedly committed

In this country, there is supposed to be one set of laws. All are bound by the same rules and regulations, at least in theory.

In practice, that’s not the case–something I’ve mentioned elsewhere.

A prime example of that is Hunter Biden. We have tons of evidence that he’s done some shady stuff, but of particular interest here at Bearing Arms is how he has so far managed to evade prosecution for a crime that the DOJ is still charging, at least if you’re not the son of the sitting president.

Miracle Star Vaughn, a 27-year-old woman from North Liberty, Iowa, was sentenced last week to serve one year and a day in a federal prison after pleading guilty to making false statements during the purchase of several firearms, according to an ATF press release.

Vaughn lied about her drug use on an ATF Form 4473, court documents show. Two of the firearms she purchased were later found in the possession of convicted felons, one of whom is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Vaughn’s 366-day prison sentence was the product of a plea agreement. After she completes her prison term, she must serve an additional three years of supervised release.

The false statements Vaughn made about her drug use are similar to the false statement Hunter Biden allegedly made on Oct. 12, 2018, when he answered “No” on an ATF Form 4473, when asked “Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?”

Of course, we’ve touched on this before. We know what Hunter Biden has been up to over the years and we’ve seen tons of evidence he broke this exact law.

Allegedly, anyway.

Yet he’s not been prosecuted for it. Vaughn, on the other hand, is now looking at just a smidge over a year in prison for the exact same offense.

I use that term in part because I find the whole idea offensive.

Sure, I can make the case that someone using a controlled substance doesn’t forfeit any other right, so why their Second Amendment rights, but that’s really not the issue for me.

No, the problem is that Hunter Biden gets a pass because of who is daddy is while Vaughn wasn’t so fortunate with regard to her parents.

I’m sick of seeing double standards, particularly with regard to the laws surrounding firearms. The connected can break gun control laws all they want. It doesn’t even have to be the son of the president. Even the husband of a mayor can seemingly skirt the issue.

Our rights are our rights. They either exist across all lines or they don’t. What’s more, the enforcement for violating those laws is applied evenly or they’re little more than words on paper for some people. That’s not equal protection before the law, as the Constitution guarantees us.

Then again, when the people who violate the gun control laws are typically covered by those advocating for gun control laws, we can see that the rules aren’t for the Bidens of the world, just you and me.
