Minnesota Democratic Chair Trying to Cover For Walz’s ‘Embellishments’

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is being sold to the American public as just a regular guy. In fact, as both a veteran and a self-described hunter and outdoorsman, one might be shocked to learn he’s not a Republican, but he’s not.

He’s as progressive as they come, really, with his support for all kinds of policies that are most definitely in light with the more liberal sect of Democrats.

But they don’t want the American people to realize that, nor do they want them to realize that Walz has only a passing familiarity with the truth. He’s been caught in multiple instances of saying things that are flatly untrue.

In fact, it’s so bad that even CNN’s Jake Tapper had to push back against the Minnesota Democratic Chairman’s attempt to provide cover.

On Wednesday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Lead,” Minnesota DFL Party Chair Ken Martin discussed 2024 Democratic vice presidential candidate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s (D) untrue statements about his military service and fertility treatments his family used and said that “when we put it into context, what the Governor was saying and what he means is that we need gun control in this country, we need to make sure that weapons of war are not on the streets, we need IVF treatments in this country, we need to make sure that people who are seeking out fertility treatments can get them successfully.” And “he misspoke, and it’s not an embellishment to say that we sought fertility treatments, it’s not an embellishment to say that he actually carried a weapon of war.”

Host Jake Tapper asked, “I do want to ask you about what seemed like some unforced errors from the Governor, saying that he carried a weapon of war in war, which he never — he served honorably, but was never actually in a war zone, talking about his family’s struggle for fertility, he said that an attack on IVF is an attack on his family. They didn’t actually use IVF, they used a different fertility procedure. These seem like unnecessary errors.”

Martin responded, “Well, look, the reality is, as it relates to the fertility issue, the Governor and his wife struggled with fertility, like millions of Americans do throughout this country, and the reality is, they sought a treatment. Luckily, they were able to be successful with IUI. They didn’t need to seek out IVF. But under Donald Trump and Sen. JD Vance’s (R-OH) policies and proposals, of course, we would see total bans on IVF around the country, and that’s what we’re really talking about here. And then the same thing with the weapons of war comment, right? When you put it into context, the Governor did carry a weapon of war, right?”

Tapper cut in to respond, “Sure. But not in war.”

And let’s be clear, Walz has framed himself as a war veteran multiple times. He’s claimed to have carried these “weapons of war” in actual war, which he hasn’t.

Martin tried to frame them as cases of Walz misspeaking, but let’s be real, Walz is lying. He knows none of this happened, yet he’s tried to sell this to the American people multiple times. If he misspoke once and got it right all the other times, I might buy that explanation. Continuing to do it, and there are tons of cases of this with Walz, means it’s not a goof. It’s intentional.

Tapper went on to ask Martin if Walz realized this was hurting him in getting his message out, but Martin continued to deny they were “embellishments.”

They are, since that term probably applies as well as anything short of “lies.”

And with that in mind, what else is Walz lying about? Was he lying when he said he supported the Second Amendment back when he was in Congress? Was he lying about having a conversion moment and embracing gun control conveniently just before running for governor? Is he lying about respecting the Second Amendment at all?

At this point, despite Martin’s attempt at providing cover, the truth is that Walz seems to be completely unfamiliar with the truth.
