I’ve tested a lot of digiscoping adapters over the years—some worked okay, most were bulky or frustrating. But Epoch Outdoors’ Mountain Mag is the first one that truly nails it. It’s simple, lightweight, and most importantly, lets you keep your own phone case, as long as it’s MagSafe-compatible.

That’s a game-changer.

Why the Mountain Mag Stands Out

What makes the Mountain Mag special isn’t just that it works—it’s that it works with your everyday gear, not despite it.

You don’t need a proprietary phone case. No clamp or threading needed. You don’t need to line things up manually every time. The system is based on strong embedded magnets and a precise offset design that just clicks your phone into perfect position, first try, every time.

The entire system is lightweight, low profile, and fast to deploy in the field. I’ve used it on windy ridges, off tripods, and through both spotting scopes and image-stabilized binos with excellent results.

Construction & Compatibility

The Mountain Mag adapter is built using 3D-printed polymer with magnets and steel inserts epoxied in for strength and retention. It’s not some over-engineered chunk of billet aluminum—but that’s exactly why it works so well. It’s light, simple, and efficient. The eyepiece adapter adds almost no bulk and doesn’t interfere with eye relief. Your scope covers still fit, and it slips easily into your bino harness when you’re done.

The phone plate is specific to your model and labeled accordingly. I used it with my Samsung S24 Ultra and had perfect alignment with both the 1x and 3x cameras. Even better—my older S23 Ultra worked with the same adapter since the lens layout is similar. That kind of backwards compatibility is rare in this category.

Rockform Case Tested

For my setup, I use a Rockform case—my all-time favorite. It has an integrated magnet strong enough to stick my phone to truck panels, gun safes, or any steel surface. The Mountain Mag system snaps right onto it with no interference and full wireless charging capability. This is exactly what makes this system so slick—no need to swap out your case just to use it.

If you don’t have a phone case that uses MagSafe, you can purchase the extremely thin MagSafe Ring from Epoch Outdoors and add it to your case.

Mountain Mag In the Field

During spring bear season, I filmed some B-roll through the Mountain Mag in 30+ mph winds. Despite the conditions, the footage came out sharp and stable. I also used it on a spotting scope with a reticle to record my long-range shots—a valuable tool when reviewing hits, misses, or environmental factors after the fact.

It’s also perfect for wildlife photography or capturing memorable hunting moments—solo or with a group.

Bonus Gear That Makes Sense

Epoch also offers two accessories that impressed me:

  • Magnetic Lens Cover: Snaps right onto the eyepiece and hangs by a tether when not in use. Protects your optics from dust and weather—clean and clever.
  • Arca-Swiss Tripod Plate: This attachment lets you mount your phone to a tripod using an Arca head, perfect for selfies or stable landscape shots. It even doubles as a magnetic kickstand for your phone (check out the video to see this product).

Everything works off the same mount point—snap off one tool, snap on another.

Final Thoughts on the Mountain Mag

At $59 for the eyepiece adapter and $59 for the phone plate, the Mountain Mag is not just the best system I’ve used—it’s also one of the most affordable. No bloated price tag. No clunky proprietary gear. Just a clean, user-friendly solution from a small U.S. company that clearly understands how hunters and shooters use their optics in the real world.

If you’ve been frustrated with traditional digiscoping setups, give this a look. It’s my new go-to.

Verdict: Best digiscoping adapter for real-world hunters and shooters. Lightweight, affordable, and just works.
