Sometimes, it takes just the right opportunity and organization to help our veterans feel Wild Again. American Prairie joined forces with the Backcountry Hunters & Anglers Armed Forces Initiative (AFI) to offer a unique hunting experience to one of its veteran volunteers.
The AFI program is designed to connect veterans and active-duty service members with hunting, fishing, and conservation activities. Through this partnership, American Prairie hosted a 3-day elk hunt for an AFI veteran volunteer. The hunt occurred in the secluded Larb Hills region of the Missouri River Breaks. Blue Ridge is managed to provide a more intimate and high-quality hunting environment.
American Prairie offers over 82,000 acres for public hunting through Montana’s Block Management program. However, the Blue Ridge property stands, having limited, exclusive access. Hunters who draw a limited-entry permit can apply for 3 days in this private area, where only eight archery hunters, two youth hunters, and eight rifle hunters are welcomed each season.
This arrangement ensures that hunters enjoy a rare, quiet, and scenic experience in pursuit of elk in an undisturbed habitat.
Wild Again follows Navy veteran Dj Zor as he ventures across the landscape in search of elk and to find a little bit more of his purpose.
