Writer Salman Rushdie is no stranger to death threats. He survived an attempt on his life in 2022, but that was after years of facing a fatwa calling for his death over his book, The Satanic Verses.  Because of that history, one might imagine that Rushdie would see the importance of people being able to protect themselves. After all, most of us are authors known the world over for our controversial work, thus not having the means to hire protection as needed. However, it seems that if someone did, they imagined wrongly, as he was pretty…

NSSF just dropped the numbers for 2025’s “Black Friday” week, and while they’re slightly lower than last year’s record pace, the appetite for firearms among law-abiding Americans is still running hot. According to NSSF, the FBI’s NICS system processed 530,156 background checks for the week leading up to, and including, Black Friday. That’s down 13.6% from 2024’s 613,380, but still a massive volume by any normal year’s standard. Black Friday itself saw 165,183 checks, a number that roughly tracks with retail firearm sales, though NSSF notes it also captures related checks like CCW permit approvals. The holiday weekend wasn’t peaceful…

A nonprofit in North Carolina has created a unique process of honoring deceased veterans while also caring for the environment. The Idea for a MemorialThe idea began when Thomas Marcinowski, a veteran, read a story in National Geographic magazine featuring an underwater columbarium designed to replicate the Lost City of Atlantis. From there, he founded the Veterans Memorial Reef, believing families could honor their lost veterans in a similar fashion, according to Vivian Yuditsky, the nonprofit’s media coordinator and executive assistant. “He had long wanted a burial at sea to ‘touch all the places his boots had walked’ in service,” Yuditsky told…

More than 3,000 comments were filed in response to the Justice Department’s proposed rule allowing the Attorney General to restore the Second Amendment rights of prohibited persons who request relief before the comment period ended in late October, and the DOJ is now reviewing and analyzing those comments before deciding whether to move forward with the rule as drafted or revise the language.  Second Amendment groups like the National Rifle Association were generally receptive to proposal, though the group did advocate for several changes that it believes would make the rights restoration process even better. These…

The brand-new SQ5 is a big deal for Audi. The SUV is far and away its bestseller in the U.S., nearly doubling Audi’s next-best last year. When brand sales dropped 14% in 2024, and the Q5 and more powerful SQ5 were down 23%, it’s a big problem in need of a solution. Audi needs to reverse that trend, and the Q5, along with the SQ5 performance SUV, is the best way for the automaker to do it. As I said, it’s important. Crucial, even. So Audi is going all-out. This year’s new SQ5 is built on what Audi has been…

There’s an experiment on the internet that’s interesting. “The Enemies Project helps ‘enemies’ discover the human being in each other.” What happened when the Second Amendment was in the spotlight? One of the things I feel we do at Bearing Arms — besides providing news and commentary — is highlight the human elements that are sewn into the fiber of America and what that means looking through the lens of the Second Amendment. The Enemies Project does something we, I dare say, strive to do, and that’s provoke thought and perhaps conversation. “Can Empathy Stop…

Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn The Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn region is a magnificent area with high mountain ranges, glaciers and is actually the most glaciated part of the European Alps. Visiting this area can be done relatively easy by car and if you want to go up, by train up to 3,400 metres above sea level, the highest train ride in Europe, the Jungfrau Railway is very impressive (and expensive!). The area is on the UNESCO World Heritage list because of its unique and wide range of flora and fauna and geological importance regarding the creating of the High Alps.
