Spartan Blades Pays Homage to a Legend with the Spartan-Ka-Bar

Perhaps one of the most iconic military knives in history is the USMC Ka-Bar. Originally designed in 1942 for the Marines, the Ka-Bar was eventually put into use by the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, and Underwater Demolition Teams. And now, Spartan Blades and Ka-Bar offer the reborn Spartan-Ka-Bar in MagnaCut steel.

The Spartan Blades Spartan-Ka-Bar

In 2019 Spartan Blades and Ka-Bar expanded by partnering to form Pineland Cutlery, Inc. John Stitt, CEO of Ka-Bar and Pineland Cutlery, had a vision of an updated version of the “Ka-Bar” knife. He wanted increased edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance. The result is the Spartan-Ka-Bar.

Constricted of CPM MagnaCut steel, the fighter maintains the same iconic attributes as the original—only better. MagnaCut is a stainless steel developed by Crucible Industries specifically for the cutlery industry.

Featuring all of the same corrosion resistance and hardness of stainless steel, MagnaCut also adds additional toughness. This, combined with Spartan’s deep cryogenic heat treat, means that the Spartan-Ka-Bar is ready for hard use in hard environments.

With an overall length of 12 inches, the Spartan-Ka-Bar sports a 7-inch blade with the recognizable Ka-Bar clip point. The blade features a flat saber grind and swedge at the tip. For this reason, the knife provides a keen edge and excellent penetration qualities. Sitting on the blade flat, just above the primary bevel, is the iconic fuller, adding to the classic “Ka-Bar” look.

Aside from the steel, the handle offers another distinct difference between the Spartan-Ka-Bar and the original. Featuring the traditional hidden tang design, the Spartan-Ka-Bar replaces the stacked leather handle with Kraton G. However, the deep parallel striations in the handle material maintain the familiar look and feel of the original.

A 301 stainless steel butt cap holds the handle firmly in place while the stainless-steel guard prevents the hand from sliding up onto the blade. Each Spartan-Ka-Bar is coated in your choice of PVD Tungsten DLC (in flat black) or ZrN (in flat dark earth. Likewise, the knife ships with your choice of the sheath in black leather, black Kydex, or coyote Kydex.
